Several years ago now, my friend John Goodmanson asked if I would
be interested in being “the singer” on some weird electronic
songs that he and Steve Fisk were messing around with in their then-copious
spare time. Obviously, I said yes, and a merry makeshift trio was
born into an erratic life of sessions in front of the computer at
Steve’s home studio, sessions marked by occasional proclamations
of, “Man, this stuff is good. We should get serious about this…” which
were naturally followed by prolonged periods of downtime when we
all had other stuff to do. Though at the outset, the idea was to
make our songs as simple and obvious as possible (inspired by the
brilliant KLF book “The Manual”) it soon became clear
that, with the possible exception of Sara the pug, obviousness was
the strong suit of no one in the room. Thus is the ongoing quest
of the Society of the Golden West.
