If I might paraphrase Chappelle's Show, what can I say about Harvey Danger that hasn’t already been said about Afghanistan? I’m working on an epic rendition of the band’s history due sometime before the water wars begin in earnest, but for now, I’m a tell you like this: We formed in 1994. We lived together, worked together, wrote a lot of songs together, and played a lot of shows together. We made a record—Where Have All the Merrymakers Gone?—in 1996. It came out on a small indie label in 1997. One of the songs became a hit. The record was re-released on a major label in 1998. We toured a lot, made videos, played on TV, licensed songs to movies, occasionally flew first class, and generally acted like whiny little bitches for most of that year. The record went gold. We made a second record—King James Version—in 1999. Our label collapsed. We—and when I say “we,” I mean “I”—went a little insane. Our label re-emerged. The record came out in late 2000. We toured a little, made a video, played on TV, licensed songs to movies, only flew coach, and generally acted like whiny little bitches for the rest of that year and into the next. The record did not go gold. A lot of people still don’t know it exists—though you can buy it on iTunes! We broke up in early 2001. Certain things transpired. We did a session on February 1, 2004 . It went really well, so we decided to slowly consider re-forming. We played a 10th anniversary show on April 21, 1994 . It was killer. We re-formed decisively, with a new drummer, because the old one had moved away. We’re playing shows, enjoying ourselves, and even making a third record even as I type this. It appears to be really good. We’ll see what happens.
